If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, contact us at support@thehomechef.co.uk.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) as a data controller.
Your purchase is processed by Gumroad, who acts as the merchant of record for all transactions. Gumroad collects and processes your payment details, billing address, and purchase information directly. We do not see or store your payment card data at any point. Gumroad issues your purchase receipt and handles VAT compliance on our behalf. You can read Gumroad's privacy policy at Gumroad.com.
Following your purchase, we receive your email address from Gumroad solely to create your portal account.
Your email address is stored securely by Netlify Identity to manage your login and authenticate your session. We do not store any additional personal data about you on our own servers.
Inside the portal, your email address is read from your login session token and displayed as a username in the top right corner of the interface. This happens entirely within your browser - your email is not transmitted anywhere or stored by us separately for this purpose.
The portal uses your browser's local storage to remember functional preferences such as your progress within certain tools. This data lives entirely on your own device, is not accessible to us, and contains no identifying information.
Your email address is collected via our MailerLite sign-up forms or through our Instagram comment automation (ManyChat). We use this to send you the free resource you requested and, with your knowledge, our occasional Home Chef emails including product updates, cooking content, and information about The Home Chef portal.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. We will not pass your email address to any third party for their own marketing purposes.
We use the Meta pixel on thehomechef.co.uk. This technology collects information about your visit - including your IP address, browser type, and pages viewed - and shares it with Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd to help us understand the effectiveness of our content and, where you have given consent, to show relevant advertising. The Meta pixel is not present on portal.thehomechef.co.uk. We obtain your consent before the pixel is activated, and you can withdraw consent at any time through our cookie settings.
We process your data on the following legal bases under UK GDPR:
Contractual necessity - processing your email address to create and maintain your portal login is necessary to deliver the service you have purchased.
Legitimate interests - sending you product updates and Home Chef content after purchase, where you have not opted out. We have assessed that this is proportionate and does not override your rights, given that the communications relate directly to the product you purchased and you can opt out at any time.
Consent - activating the Meta pixel on thehomechef.co.uk. You can withdraw this consent at any time via our cookie settings and your data will no longer be collected through this mechanism going forward.
Legal obligation - retaining certain transaction records as required by UK tax and accounting law. This obligation sits primarily with Gumroad as merchant of record.
We use the following third-party services to operate The Home Chef. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf, except where noted:
Netlify Inc. - hosts the portal and manages login authentication. Data is stored on servers in the United States. This transfer is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses under Netlify's Data Processing Agreement.
Gumroad - processes all payments as merchant of record. Acts as an independent data controller for payment and transaction data.
MailerLite - manages our email list and sends emails on our behalf.
ManyChat - manages Instagram comment automation that may capture your email address if you request our free resources through Instagram.
Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd - receives data collected by the Meta pixel on thehomechef.co.uk, subject to your consent.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with any party not listed above.
Netlify stores data on servers in the United States. This transfer is lawful under UK GDPR by virtue of Standard Contractual Clauses included in Netlify's Data Processing Agreement, which you can review at netlify.com. Other processors listed above operate within the UK or EEA or have equivalent transfer mechanisms in place.
We retain your email address in our systems for as long as you hold an active portal account or remain subscribed to our mailing list. If you request deletion of your data, we will remove your email address from our systems within 30 days. To request deletion, contact us at support@thehomechef.co.uk.
Note that Gumroad retains transaction records independently in accordance with their own retention policy and applicable tax law. We are unable to delete records held solely by Gumroad as they are required for legal compliance.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
Access - request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification - ask us to correct inaccurate data.
Erasure - ask us to delete your personal data, subject to any legal obligations that require us to retain certain records.
Restriction - ask us to restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
Portability - receive your data in a commonly used format.
Object - object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing. If you object to marketing, we will stop immediately.
Withdraw consent - where processing is based on consent (the Meta pixel), you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@thehomechef.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
The Home Chef portal is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly market to or collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a person under 16 has created an account, please contact us at support@thehomechef.co.uk and we will delete the account and associated data promptly.
thehomechef.co.uk uses cookies, including the Meta pixel, which requires your consent before activation. A cookie banner is displayed on your first visit. You may withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings link in the site footer.
portal.thehomechef.co.uk does not use cookies. It uses your browser's local storage for functional purposes only - storing your progress within certain tools entirely on your own device. No personal data is stored in local storage and this data is not accessible to us.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically. Significant changes that affect how we use your data will be communicated to portal members by email.
